Sustainability Of Pig Production in warm climates
Improvement of feed efficiency requires reduced food resource inputs per unit of product outputs. This may potentially negatively affect the metabolic balance and compromise overall animal robustness, although positive consequences of improved selection for feed efficiency have also been found. At UNE, robustness of commercial pigs exposed conditions of heat stress is investigated. This is particularly relevant in the light of climate change. Production farms and breeding companies will benefit from rearing efficient and robust pigs with good welfare.
